Introduction

This information is established as a "Year 2000 Readiness Disclosure" under the Year 2000 Information and Readiness Disclosure Act of 1998, a U.S. statute enacted on October 19, 1998. This document discusses how FileMaker, Inc. products handle dates in the year 2000 and beyond.

Unless otherwise noted, FileMaker software products rely on the date format supplied by the operating system. FileMaker products that use the date algorithms of the Mac OS and Windows operating systems will take advantage of future changes to these operating systems. This also means that U.S. and non-U.S. customers may use the date format standard accepted within their respective countries. For current information about year 2000 issues regarding such operating systems, we recommend that you contact Apple Computer, Inc. (http://www.apple.com/) and Microsoft Corporation (http://www.microsoft.com/) directly for more information.

It is strongly recommended that four-digit years should be used. Two-digit year dates are subject to interpretation at the time they are entered or modified. FileMaker Pro software interprets such dates in certain circumstances according to the rules detailed in this document. Please carefully read the details in this document which describe how the products interpret two-digit years.

We also recommend that customers enter dates only into fields defined as type Date. Customers generally should not enter dates into fields of other types (e.g., Number or Text) because FileMaker software is not intended to support dates in such fields.

Finally, we recommend that customers take a complete look at their information systems to ensure they transition smoothly into the next century. Problems can come from several sources including the hardware, operating systems, software applications and utilities. For example, not all mainframe programs may function properly at the year 2000. If a computer with FileMaker software is used to access such information, year 2000 issues may arise. Some computers also have a problem that resets the system date to 1980 when the computer reaches the year 2000. This problem is created by flaws in the computer hardware and in low-level BIOS software provided by other vendors. In addition, software developers and customers that create solutions based on FileMaker software to collect, store and manipulate dates may have problems if they have not properly accounted for the year 2000. Customers must also take responsibility for the accuracy and entry of data under either the two-digit or four-digit method. It is important for customers to be aware of such issues, test their software and hardware, and take appropriate measures to address these and other related issues.

This disclosure refers to FileMaker-branded software products as originally delivered by FileMaker. This disclosure does not apply to third party products, product features that have been customized or altered, or other third party plug-ins, add-on features or products. FileMaker encourages customers to contact third party vendors directly for information concerning their products and services.

FileMaker will provide information about year 2000 readiness, but FileMaker is not providing contractual warranties specific to year 2000. Warranties for FileMaker products are set forth in the end user license agreements that accompany the product and customers should read those warranties to understand their rights. Samples of the FileMaker end user license agreements are available by contacting FileMaker or by visiting the FileMaker web site (http://www.filemaker.com/). Any information FileMaker disseminates about year 2000 does not constitute an extension of any warranty for FileMaker products. FileMaker is providing this information to assist our customers in evaluating and correcting potential issues for using dates into the next century.

This document is subject to change without notice. FileMaker is continuing to test our products for any issues, and FileMaker continues to receive feedback from customers on this subject. FileMaker may make available certain patches at no charge in the future. It is strongly recommended that you use the current version of the software along with any updates which are made available. FileMaker Pro generally handles dates through the year 3000, except as specified below. FileMaker Pro handles the leap year in the year 2000 as described below. FileMaker Pro allows the entry and manipulation of both four-digit and two-digit year dates as described below. It is strongly recommended that complete four-digit years be used to avoid possible confusion.

Interpreting Existing Two-Digit Year Dates

All versions of FileMaker support legacy data by interpreting existing two-digit year dates (outside of data entry) as the 20th century ("19xx"), not whatever the current century happens to be. For the purposes of this document, legacy data includes two-digit year dates previously entered in FileMaker and dates coming from sources external to FileMaker. Legacy data does not include newly entered data by the user or newly generated data by the software.

Interpreting Newly-Modified or Entered Two-Digit Year Dates

FileMaker Pro 3.0 and later versions provide a data entry feature to allow users to enter or modify two-digit year dates in active date fields (either directly or via scripting) and have them interpreted as four-digit years based on the current year and the particular entry, as follows. For purposes of this document, "active" date fields mean the fields in the Browse or Find modes which receive commands and/or keyboard input.

If the current year is among the LAST ten years of the century (as in 1990-1999 or 2090-2099), then any two-digit year in the range 00-09 will be interpreted as a year in the FOLLOWING century, and any two-digit year in the range 10-99 will be interpreted as a year in the CURRENT century. (For example, if it's 1998, then "03" will be interpreted as "2003" and "83" will be interpreted as "1983".)

If the current year is among the FIRST ten years of the century (as in 2000-2009), then any two-digit year in the range 90-99 will be interpreted as a year in the PREVIOUS century, and any two-digit year in the range 00-89 will be interpreted as a year in the CURRENT century. (For example, if it's 2002, then "97" will be interpreted as "1997" and "83" will be interpreted as "2083".)

If the current year is not among the FIRST or LAST ten years of the century (as in 2010-2089), then any two-digit year will be interpreted as a year in the CURRENT century. (For example, if it's 2014, then "03" will be interpreted as "2003", "45" will be interpreted as "2045", and "92" will be interpreted as "2092".)

The interpretation behavior is determined by the current year, for example:

As stated above, this two-digit year interpretation only occurs in FileMaker Pro 3.0 and later versions, and only when entering or modifying two-digit year dates in active date fields (either directly or via scripting). Therefore, if a user makes any modification to an existing two-digit year date (perhaps changing just the month or day, or changing "1/1/89" to "1-1-89"), the year may be interpreted as a year in a different century. (For example, "1/1/89" will be interpreted as "1/1/2089" in the year 2000 and after if the field is modified.)

In addition, when a user enters a 20th century ("19xx") date using the Japanese historical date input method, the date is actually entered into the field as a Western-style date with a two-digit year. For example, if "M38.5.1" (Meiji 38.5.1) is entered into a date field, it is actually displayed in the field as "05.5.1" (1905.5.1). If a user later modifies that date, the year may be changed due to interpretation (i.e., the year in the above example could be changed to "2005" if the user modifies the month or day).

When using the "Define Value Lists" dialog, dates entered in a value list definition are treated as text. If a two-digit year date is entered into a value list definition, it will generally remain as a two-digit year unless it is put into an active date field. If a two-digit year from a value list is put into an active date field, it will be subject to the interpretation described above.

This interpretation does NOT occur otherwise. All other two-digit year entries and dates entered in all the following situations are interpreted as "19xx" (NOT the current century but actually "19xx"):

• entering or modifying dates via import records, Apple Events, ODBC, or web companion
• entering data via drag-n-drop or script commands to a non-active field (active fields do the interpretation)
• entering dates in a calculation expression
• entering dates along with Find symbols (such as ".." or ">") in a Find Request
• entering dates for Auto Enter "Data" in the Define Fields/Options dialog
• entering dates for Validation "In Range" in the Define Fields/Options dialog
• entering dates as Literal Values in calculation expressions or scripting

For example, entering a Find Request as "1/1/03 .. 12/31/05" will find the years 1903 to 1905, regardless of the current year. Similarly, when importing records, entering or modifying dates via web browsers using the web companion, or entering dates through one of the other methods described above, two-digit dates are interpreted as "19xx", regardless of the current year. It is strongly recommended that complete four-digit years be used to avoid possible confusion.

Expansion of Two-Digit Year Date Entries

"Expansion" means that a two-digit year is visually expanded to a four-digit year displayed on the monitor, to enable the user to see the interpretation of the two-digit year as a four-digit year when editing the date.

FileMaker Pro 3.0 and later versions expand two-digit years which do not result in 20th century ("19xx") years (e.g., expanding "03" to "2003"), and do not expand two-digit years which do result in 20th century years (e.g., "96" may be interpreted as "1996" but it is displayed as "96"). FileMaker Pro versions 2.1 and all earlier versions do not expand two-digit years at all.

For example, the "expansion" behavior works as follows for FileMaker Pro 3.0 and later versions:

Two-Digit Year Date Results in Calculations

All calculation expressions will reduce 20th century years ("19xx") to two-digit years. The year will still be interpreted properly as "19xx" by FileMaker but the representation will be a two-digit year. However, scripts which modify an active date field using the result of a calculation can result in an incorrect date since the calculation would truncate the 20th century year to two digits and then the date entry interpretation feature in FileMaker Pro 3.0 and later versions could choose to interpret the date as a 21st century year. Therefore, we recommend that you do not use script generated dates resulting from a calculation to modify an active date field.

For example, a calculation resulting in the date "1/1/1999" will reduce and store this date as "1/1/99". This date will be interpreted in an active date field as "1/1/1999" in 1999 and as "1/1/2099" in 2011 based on the interpretation rules described above. A calculation resulting in the date "1/1/2001" will store and interpret this date as "1/1/2001".

Two-Digit Years in "Paste from Index" and "Paste Current Date"

The "Paste from Index" and "Paste Current Date" features will display 20th century years ("19xx") as two-digit years even though the index contains fully-specified years. Pasting these truncated years into an active date field can then trigger the date entry interpretation feature in FileMaker Pro 3.0 and later versions so that they may be reinterpreted as a year in the 21st century. Therefore, we recommend that you do not use these features to paste dates into an active date field, although you may continue to use these features to paste other data.

For example, a date stored as "1/1/1999" in the index will display this date as "1/1/99" when using the Paste from Index feature. This date will be interpreted in an active date field as "1/1/1999" in 1999 and as "1/1/2099" in 2011 based on the interpretation rules described above. A date stored as "1/1/2001" in the index will display and interpret this date as "1/1/2001" when using the Paste from Index feature.

Leap Year

FileMaker Pro correctly handles the leap year in the year 2000, subject to the following. Importing any date value greater than 2/28/2000 from a SYLK file format or from a WKS or WK1 file format created from Lotus 1-2-3 results in a date one day later. For example, importing dates from such file formats results as follows:

Date Range

FileMaker Pro handles dates through the year 3000, subject to the following. Dates generated by the "Today()" and "Status(CurrentDate)" calculation functions are limited to the range 1904 - 2040. The WKS and WK1 file formats are limited to the range 1900 - 2099 (see "Exporting Dates" below).

Exporting Dates

When exporting records containing dates, FileMaker Pro allows customers to export in various formats (e.g., Tab-Separated Text, DBF, WKS). For some formats the user can select either "Don't format output" or "Format output using current layout".

If "Don't format output" is selected, then FileMaker Pro will export two-digit years or four-digit years depending upon how the dates are stored in FileMaker Pro, subject to the information below. If "Format output using current layout" is selected, then FileMaker Pro will export years based on how the user selects to format the dates, subject to the information below.

If the data is exported in DBF format, then FileMaker Pro will export both two-digit years and four-digit years as four-digit years in DBF format. If the date is exported in WKS format, and "Format output using current layout" is selected, WKS applies the layout format to number and time fields, but not to date fields. The date function in the WKS/WK1 file format is limited to exporting dates with the years 1900 through 2099. We recommend that you use another format to export dates outside this range.

Data and scripts running under FileMaker Pro Server are handled by FileMaker Pro as described above. A "Find" request runs under FileMaker Pro Server and will behave as it would under FileMaker Pro as described above.

FileMaker Pro Developer Edition includes FileMaker Pro and FMP Runtime which operate as described above, and FMP Binder which does not contain any date functions.

There are no date functions in this application.

FileMaker Pro（日本においては「ファイルメーカーPro」。以降もこれに同じ）は、一般 的に、下記に明記される場合を除き、3000年までの日付を取り扱っています。FileMaker Proは、2000年の閏年を下記の通り扱っています。FileMaker Proにおいては、下記に記載されている通 り、日付けについては4桁表示の年及び２桁表示の年の両方の入力及び操作が可能です。起こりうる混乱を避けるために、常に4桁年表示を使用されるよう強くお奨めします。

FileMaker Proの何れのバージョンも、既存の2桁年表示の日付を（データ入力時以外）、現時点が何世紀であるかではなく、20世紀（「１９ｘｘ」）の日付として解釈することによりレガシー データ（既存のデータ）をサポートします。本書面の目的上、レガシー データには、ファイルメーカーに以前既に入力された2桁年表示の日付及びFileMaker Proの外部情報源からの日付が含まれます。レガシー データには、ユーザーにより新規に入力されたデータ又はソフトウエアにより新たに生成されたデータは含まれません。

解釈のされ方は、現行年が何年であるかによって決定されます。例えば、

上記の通り、このような2桁表示の年の解釈は、FileMaker Pro 3.0及びこれ以降のバージョンでしか行われず、また、アクティブな日付フィールドに（直接的又はスクリプティングにより）2桁年表示の日付を入力したり又は修正するときのみ行われます。従って、ユーザーが既存の2桁年表示の日付に修正を加える場合（例えば、単に月又は日の変更をしたり、あるいは「1/1/89」を「1-1-89」に変更する場合）、その年は、違う世紀の年として解釈される可能性があります。（例えば、フィールドが修正された場合、「1/1/89」は、2000年以降「1/1/2089」として解釈されてしまうというように。）

更に、ユーザーが和暦を使って20世紀（「19ｘｘ」）の日付を入力した場合、その日付は、実際には、2桁年表示された西洋式日付として入力されることとなります。例えば、日付フィールドに「Ｍ38.5.1」（明治38.5.1）が入力された場合、フィールドには実際には、「05.5.1」（1905.5.1）として表示されます。ユーザーがこの日付を後で修正した場合、その年は、このような解釈がゆえに変更される可能性があります。（すなわち、上記例での年が、ユーザーが月又は日を修正した場合、「2005年」に変更される可能性があります。）

「値一覧の定義」のダイアログで入力された日付は、テキストとして扱われます。値一覧の定義に2桁年表示の日付が入力された場合、一般 的に、これをアクティブな日付フィールドに入力しない限り、2桁年表示の日付のままとなります。値一覧から2桁表示の年をアクティブな日付フィールドに入力した場合、上記に説明した解釈の対象となります。

このような解釈は、このほかの場合には起こりません。その他全ての2桁表示による年の入力及び下記のすべての状況下において入力された日付は「19ｘｘ」として解釈されます。（現世紀としてではなく、実際に「19ｘｘ」としてです。）：

• レコードの取り込み、Apple Event、ODBC又はWebコンパニオンによる日付の入力又は修正。
• ドラッグ&ドロップ又はスクリプトコマンドによるアクティブではないフィールドへのデータの入力（アクティブなフィールドは上述の解釈を行ないます。）
• 計算式内への日付の入力。
• 検索条件において、検索記号（「..」や、「＞」のような記号）と併せた日付の入力。
• フィールド定義／入力オプションのダイアログにおける入力時の自動化内の「データ」への日付の入力。
• フィールド定義／入力オプションのダイアログにおける入力値の制限の「下限値」および「上限値」への日付の入力。
• 計算式の中、又はスクリプト定義によりテキストデータとしての日付の入力。

例えば、「1/1/03..12/31/05」と検索条件に入力すると現行年に拘わらず、1903から1905年までを検索します。同様に、レコードの取り込み、　Web コンパニオンを利用しWeb ブラウザを経由して日付の入力又は修正を行なう場合、あるいは上述のその他の方法の一つにより日付を入力する場合、現行年に拘わらず、2桁表示の日付は、「19ｘｘ」として解釈されます。起こりうる混乱を避けるため、常に4桁表示による年を使用されることを強くお奨めします。

2桁年表示の日付入力の拡張

「拡張」とは、日付を編集する際にユーザーが2桁年表示の解釈を4桁年表示として見ることができるよう、2桁表示の年が視覚的にモニター上に4桁表示の年に拡張され表示されることを意味します。

FileMaker Pro 3.0及びこれ以降のバージョンは、20世紀（「19ｘｘ」）の年とならない2桁表示の年を拡張（例えば、「03」を「2003年」に拡張）し、20世紀（「19ｘｘ」）の年となる2桁表示の年は拡張しません（例えば、「96」は「1996年」として解釈されますが、「96」として表示されます。）FileMaker Pro 2.1及びそれ以前の全てのバージョンは、2桁表示の年を全く拡張しません。

例えば、FileMaker Pro 3.0及びそれ以降のバージョンにおいて、「拡張」は、下記の通 り行われます。

計算における2桁年表示の日付の結果

計算式では全て、20世紀の年（「19ｘｘ」）を2桁表示の年に短縮します。年は、FileMaker Proにより依然として正確に「19ｘｘ」と解釈されますが、表示形態は、2桁表示の年となります。但し、計算では、20世紀の年を2桁まで短縮し、その後FileMaker Pro　3.0及びそれ以降のバージョンにおける日付入力解釈機能により同日付を21世紀の日付として解釈することを選択する可能性があるため、計算結果 を利用してアクティブな日付フィールドを修正するようなスクリプトは、不正確な日付計算になりかねません。従って、アクティブな日付フィールドを修正するための計算結果 に由来するスクリプトにより生成された日付を使用しないようお奨めします。

例えば、計算結果が「1/1/1999」の日付となる計算では、この日付を「1/1/99」まで短縮し、保存することになります。この日付は、アクティブな日付フィールドにおいて、上述の解釈のルールに従い、1999年には、「1/1/1999」として解釈され、2011年には、「1/1/2099」として解釈されます。計算結果 が「1/1/2001」の日付となる計算では、この日付を「1/1/2001」として保存、解釈することになります。

「索引一覧からのペースト」及び「現在の日付ペースト」における2桁表示の年

「索引一覧からのペースト」及び「現在の日付ペースト」機能は、索引には完全に年が明示されているにも拘わらず、20世紀の年（「19ｘｘ」）を2桁表示の年として表示します。これらの短縮された年をアクティブな日付フィールドにペーストすることで、FileMaker Pro 3.0及びそれ以降のバージョンの日付入力解釈機能を作動させ、その結果として短縮された年を21世紀の年として再解釈することができます。従って、他のデータのペーストのためにこれらの機能を継続して使用することはできますが、アクティブな日付フィールドに日付をペーストするためにこれらの機能を利用しないようお奨めします。

例えば、「1/1/1999」として索引に保存されている日付は、「索引一覧からのペースト」の機能を利用した場合、「1/1/99」として表示されます。この日付は、アクティブな日付フィールドでは、上述の解釈のルールに従い、1999年においては「1/1/1999」、2011年においては「1/1/2099」として解釈されます。「1/1/2001」として索引に保存されている日付は、「索引一覧からのペースト」の機能を利用した場合、「1/1/2001」として解釈され表示されます。

閏年

FileMaker Proは、2000年の閏年を、下記に従い正確に取り扱います。SYLKのファイル フォーマット、又はLotus 1-2-3により作成されたＷＫＳもしくはＷＫ1のファイル フォーマットから2/28/2000より後の日付の値を取り込むと、一日後れの日付という結果 となります。例えば、当該ファイル フォーマットから日付を取り込むと、下記のような結果 となります。

日付の範囲

FileMaker Proは、下記に従い3000年までの日付を処理します。「Today（）」及び「Status（日付）」関数での計算により生成される日付は、1904-2040の範囲に限定されます。WKS及びWK1ファイル フォーマットは、1900−2099の範囲に限定されます（下記の「日付の書き出し」を参照してください。）

日付の書き出し

日付を含むレコードを書き出しする場合、お客様はFileMaker Proにより様々なフォーマットによりレコードを書き出しすることができます（例えば、タブ区切りテキスト、DBF、WKS）。いくつかのフォーマットについては、ユーザーは、「出力をフォーマットしない」又は「現在のレイアウトに合わせてフォーマット」のいずれかを選択できます。

「出力をフォーマットしない」が選択された場合、FileMaker Proは、下記の情報に従い、FileMaker Proにおける日付の保存方法に基づき、2桁表示の年又は4桁表示の年を書き出します。「現在のレイアウトに合わせてフォーマット」が選択された場合、FileMaker Proは、下記の情報に従い、ユーザーが選択した日付のフォーマットに基づき年を書き出します。

データをDBFフォーマットに書き出しする場合、FileMaker Proは、　2桁表示の年も4桁表示の年もDBFフォーマットに4桁表示の年として書き出します。データをWKSのフォーマットに書き出し、「現在のレイアウトに合わせてフォーマット」が選択された場合、WKSがそのレイアウトのフォーマットを数字及び時間のフィールドに適用するものの、日付フィールドには適用しません。WKS/WK1のファイルフォーマットでは、1900年から2099年までの日付の書き出しに限定されます。この範囲外の日付を書き出すには、別 のフォーマットをご利用になることをお奨めします。

FileMaker Pro Server（日本においては「ファイルメーカーPro サーバ」。以降もこれに同じ。）にて運用され実行されているデータ及びスクリプトは、上記の通 りFileMaker Pro3.0以上により取り扱われます。検索条件は、FileMaker Pro Serverの下で実行され、上述のFileMaker Pro3.0以上の下での実行と同様の実行の仕方となります。

FileMaker Pro Developer Edition（日本においては「ファイルメーカーProデベロッパ Edition」。）は、FileMaker Pro、上記の通り動作するFileMaker Pro Runtime（日本においては「ファイルメーカーProランタイム」。）、及び日付機能を一切含まないFileMaker Pro Binder（日本においては「ファイルメーカーProバインダ。）を含みます。

HomePage（日本においては「ホームページPro 3.0」。）には日付機能はありません。
